Alabama Hiking Trail Society's 8th Annual Meeting and Conference
At Camp McDowell near the Bankhead National Forest, March 19-21, 2010

Join us in presentations, skill sessions, and hiking in the Canyonlands of Alabama! Highlights of the event include: Keynote Speaker – Tom Johnson, president of the Great Eastern Trail Association, a nature photography workshop from Beth Maynor Young, and USFS, Forever Wild, and others will update on important trail news. Learn of new long distance hiking trails in the US & Abroad, and participate in presentations on Leave No Trace, Orienteering, Survival Skills, and Wildlife. Enjoy delicious meals, campfires, storytelling, and entertainment Fri. & Sat. nights. Go canoeing on Clear Creek and/or hike nearby trails into deep sandstone canyons. Join in a silent Auction of used camping gear and a raffle of new items donated by outfitters and outdoor stores!

The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent. Anyone can participate, from beginning bird watchers to experts.
In 2010, the focus of World Water Day on March 22 will be "Communicating Water Quality Challenges and Opportunities."
